The CVV2 (Card Verification Value) code is an authentication method established by credit card companies to reduce fraudulent transactions. Requiring the card holder to provide the CVV2 code for the transaction simply verifies that the card is physically present. You can find these codes shown in the pictures below.
Visa, Mastercard and Discover Cards
The CVV2 code is the 3 digit value on the signature panel located on the back of the card.
American Express Cards
The CVV2 code is the 4 digit value printed above the account number.
